After several weeks of seasonably high temperatures and no trace of new snow, Mother Nature tossed the remaining open Tahoe ski resorts a late-season gift – Snow!

Reacting to the change in the weather, many avid skiers and snowboarders will be abandoning their original plans and instead visiting the slopes this weekend in Lake Tahoe at its three open resorts – Mt. Rose, Sugar Bowl, Palisades Tahoe. And they will be rewarded by two days of powder, not a typical occurrence for late April.
The weather forecast is calling for the snow to continue in the Lake Tahoe region through late Saturday afternoon. Following a weather break, snow is expected to start up again late Saturday night and last into at least Sunday morning. Some optimistic forecasts are predicting up to a foot of fresh snow could fall at the three Tahoe ski resorts.
Both Mt. Rose and Sugar Bowl will be closing Sunday, while the ski season continues at Palisades Tahoe through Memorial Day (May 26).
MT. ROSE: Snow started falling Friday evening (April 25) and by Saturday morning Mt. Rose was reporting 5 inches of new snow at its base and 7 inches at its summit.
“Big Pow expected for the last weekend of 2024-25 season – could be over a foot of fresh (powder),” a message on the Mt. Rose website stated. “Pow turns on the last weekend is pretty sweet.”
In its 60th season, the Nevada ski resort is offering a deal that costs only $60. The resort is offering season passholders from any Lake Tahoe-area ski resort a discounted $60 lift ticket.

Passholders can show their pass to receive $60 lift tickets for adults ($30 for children’s lift tickets). To take advantage of the deal, simply present a valid season pass at any Mt. Rose ticket window.
Due to the weather, note that Mt. Rose canceled Saturday plans for its annual Pond Skim event.
SUGAR BOWL: With 5 more inches of snow at its summit by Saturday morning, Sugar Bowl has increased its season total to 428 inches at its summit, the most among Tahoe ski resorts.
“We woke up to 5 inches of fresh snow overnight and it’s still coming down,” Sugar Bowl reported on its website. “It might not be a deep powder day, but for April 26th – who’s complaining!
The closest resort to Sacramento, Sugar Bowl will be selling $99 lift tickets when purchased online for its season-ending weekend.

The resort, located off Interstate 80 at Norden exit on Donner Summit, is expected to have eight lifts running with access to 92 runs.
PALISADES TAHOE: Although the resort only received 1 inch of new snow at its summit by Saturday morning, the snow continues to come down and will eventually evolve into a modest powder day.
Palisades Tahoe is offering a sharable three lift-ticket package deal for the remainder of the season. The cost is $297.
Ski any 3 days for just $99 per day. Use all the tickets yourself or share them with others. All three tickets can be used on one day when sharing with friends or family.
