Although only two Tahoe ski resorts reached or exceeded 100 percent of their annual snow total, overall the 2023-24 season was a strong one for snowfall.
Sugar Bowl received the most snow among Tahoe ski resorts with 481 inches at its summit, which is 106% of its average season total. Located in Nevada, near Incline Village, Mt. Rose also had more average snow that a typical season, recording 391 inches – 105% of average.
Despite a horrible start to this season when almost every Tahoe ski resort had a foot or less snow at the end of December, 2023-24 has hardly been a bust for snow totals. Many Tahoe ski resorts almost reached average snowpack.

LOTS OF SNOW IN MARCH: March was easily the largest month for overall snow totals. Sugar Bowl got 192 inches in March and every Tahoe ski resort with the exception of Heavenly received 100 or more inches for the month.
The late snowfall allowed almost every Tahoe ski resort to push back its original closing date by a week or two.
While snow totals were good around the Lake, Heavenly wasn’t among the fortunate. Big snowfalls were few at world-renowned Heavenly, which had a mere 226 inches for the season, only 66% percent of average.
HUGE SNOW DROPOFF FOR MAMMOTH: Located on California’s Eastern Sierra range, approximately 100 miles south of the Nevada state line and 50 minutes from the eastern gate of Yosemite, Mammoth Mountain had the most dramatic drop in snowfall of any California ski resort this year with a total of 355 inches.
Mammoth was able to extend last ski season into August due to a staggering amount of record-setting snowfall, getting 885 inches of snow at its summit and 715 at its base lodge area. The resort offered an incredible 275 days of skiing, opening Nov. 5 and closing Aug. 6.
