Sunday brought another solid day of snow totals for Tahoe ski resorts, who will use the fresh snow to open much more terrain.
For the second consecutive day, both Boreal Mountain and Soda Springs ski resorts had the most snow in the Tahoe region, reporting 22 inches Sunday. The 42 inches over two days brings Boreal’s season total to 102 inches of snow, the most among Tahoe ski resorts.
Mt. Rose also received 22 inches from Sunday’s storm. Other Tahoe ski resorts weren’t as fortunate. Heavenly was reporting no new snow and Diamond Peak got 1 inch. Eight Tahoe ski resorts received 7 or less inches.
The snow was continuing Monday and is supposed to keep coming down into the evening hours. The National Weather Service has a winter weather advisory in effect through 4 a.m. Tuesday.
“Snow will be showery in nature with a wide range of snow amounts possible, depending on where the heavier showers occur,” the NWS said. “Highest snow amounts will generally be along and west of Highway 89.”
But the NWS is predicting no snow after that, resulting in a Tuesday powder day. Wednesday is looking like another no of no weather implications as well.
However, another quick moving system arrives Thursday night in the Tahoe region. A more potent storm is possible for the weekend.
The NWS said winds will pick up along the mountain tops Wednesday night and remain elevated through the weekend. Surface winds will be gusty at times with Friday currently looking like the breeziest.
