During the early portion of ski season, more snow often translates into more lifts operating for Lake Tahoe ski resorts.
That’s certainly the case at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, which both received 15 inches of fresh snow over the weekend. The neighboring Tahoe resorts announced today they will be opening new terrain for skiing and snowboarding Tuesday morning. Both resorts are expected to have top-to-bottom skiing for the first time in the 2016-17 ski season.
Squaw will be operating Gold Coast Funitel, Gold Coast Express and Big Blue Express on Tuesday at 9 a.m. The Shirley Lake Express lift will be running by noon. Alpine will have the Roundhouse Express and Meadow Chair operating Tuesday morning.
Thanks to a storm that dumped up to 2 feet of fresh snow, the Tahoe ski resorts were covered in a fresh coat of white for the final day of the Thanksgiving weekend.
The three Vail Resorts – Heavenly, Northstar California and Kirkwood – also are expecting to open more terrain throughout the week as temperatures continue to stay low, which makes for ideal conditions for snowmaking. Heavenly received 18 inches of snow this weekend, Kirkwood had 16 inches and Northstar reported 13 inches.
The three resorts combine to have 44 lifts running thus far. Northstar is operating 7 lifts and 30 runs with top-to-bottom skiing and riding. Heavenly has 5 lifts and 6 runs available and Kirkwood has 4 lifts going, accessing 8 runs.
