Known as one of Lake Tahoe’s best family-friendly ski resorts, Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort will open for the season Friday (Dec. 13).
For nearly 50 years, Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort has provided families a unique and very affordable ski experience. The resort offers ski instruction for children as young as 3 years old, interchangeable lift tickets for parents with non-skiing children, retail outlets, and a kid-friendly menu in the cafeteria.
Located 18 miles from Truckee, Tahoe Donner features gentle beginner terrain, uncrowded slopes and wide-open bowls for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.
Tahoe Donner Downhill’s opening Friday joins the resort’s two additional winter venues – Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center and Snowplay. The Snowplay also opens for the season Friday, weather and conditions permitting. Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center opened Nov. 29 with additional groomed trails being added daily thanks to the recent snow totals and off-season trail enhancements.
For its opener, Tahoe Donner Downhill plans to offer skiing and riding on the Snowbird and Eagle Rock chairs, and the Caterpillar Conveyor at the Learning Center. The resort opens at 9 a.m., weather and conditions permitting. When fully open, Tahoe Donner offers 17 runs, two terrain parks and 120 acres of groomed turns and wide-open bowls.
“Thanks to the recent Sierra storms, and early snowmaking efforts, we expect great ski conditions for opening day,” said Robert McClendon, ski resort manger. “With a good snow base and the majority of our terrain open, it will be a fantastic weekend for the whole family to come out and enjoy the first turns of the season.”
$15 Lift Tickets Sunday: To celebrate opening weekend, all lift tickets are just $15 Sunday (Dec. 15) as part of Customer Appreciation Day. Additionally, first-time lesson packages are offered daily starting at $119 for kids 12-under and $143 for adults, which includes a full-day lift ticket, group lesson and equipment rental.
The Downhill Ski Resort Base Lodge will be open, providing food and beverage service, a retail shop and rental equipment.
Season passes are still on sale at Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort and Cross Country Ski Center, offering some of the most affordable prices in the region with no blackout dates. All season passholders receive bonus ski days, including four days of skiing at Diamond Peak Ski Resort and two days of skiing at Homewood Mountain Resort.
