A ski day at Sugar Bowl, especially on the weekend, is somewhat unique among other Tahoe ski resorts.
Because Sugar Bowl limits the total number of season passes it sells, the ski resort is able to manage the crowds better than many of its competitors. That results are lift lines being less crowded on busy days.
In a little more than a week – Friday, March 18 – Sugar Bowl’s 2022-23 season passes will go on sale, starting at noon. The ski resort says it expects season passes will sell quickly.
“We limit the passes sold to maintain our uniquely uncrowded experience. We manage the crowds, so our guests don’t have to,” said Sugar Bowl spokesperson Jon Slaughter. “Your time is valuable, so spend it skiing and riding, because ski trips are too short for traffic (on the roads and the slopes).”
Venerable Sugar Bowl has been operating since 1939. It is the closest Lake Tahoe-area ski resort for skiers and snowboarders traveling from the Bay Area or the Sacramento region. The resort is a few miles off the Norden exit on Interstate 80.
By selling a limited amount of season passes and lift tickets, Sugar Bowl is a ski resort that most often has less traffic getting there, less people in lift lines, resulting in more room on its 103 trails for skiers and riders.
Like all Tahoe ski resorts, the lift tickets at Sugar Bowl are more affordable when purchasing earlier. After a certain date, the season pass prices rise.
Note that single day lift tickets must be purchased online at least one day in advance.
