Sugar Bowl ski resort near Lake Tahoe wouldn’t mind a similar winter as last year. The historic ski resort received 44 feet of snow, keeping skiers and snowboarders happy all winter.
Sugar Bowl says last year’s results have allowed the resort to invest all its profits back into the guest experience, which has been the long-standing tradition. Sugar Bowl has invested over $3 million into the resort this summer.
Below are a few improvements for the 2016-17 season.
Snow Surfaces and Grooming: The focus continues to be grooming at Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge, a cross-country ski area. Sugar Bowl invested over $1 million for three new snowcats, including a winchcat for steep slopes and racing surfaces, a cross country groomer for Royal Gorge, and an all-mountain groomer to refresh the fleet.
This summer the Royal Gorge team tackled a major cross country trails initiative to widen and improve all of our cross country trails. These trail improvements will enable the resort to open quicker. The top priority at both Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge is to open terrain faster after new snow with great grooming.
Village Lodge Food and Beverage: Following last year’s successful launch of the new Belt Room bar, Sugar Bowl continues to invest in food and beverage services at the Village. The kitchen, which services three restaurants (Nob Hill, The Dining Room, Belt Room), received a quarter-million major upgrade this summer to increase capacity during peak periods and to deliver new menu concepts.
The resort has partnered with culinary expertise from San Francisco to bring new menu concepts with local, seasonal produce, meats and fish. New healthy and light choices will be accompanied by hearty, European-influenced options.
Refreshed Alpine Charm: Less crowds, fewer lines, more snow and alpine charm. Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge has always valued its authentic roots. With four peaks and big mountain skiing, the resort seeks to maintain its hearty, rugged individualism. There is a new website coming soon, new uniforms, new rental fleet, sign upgrades and lots of fresh paint on lifts and buildings. These are just a few of the highlights to refresh and accentuate the mountain’s alpine charm.
After successfully expanding terrain and facilities at Mt. Judah and Crow’s Peak areas, the resort says it now looks to the next 20 years. Strategic planning efforts launched last December are now starting to produce opportunities and plans for on-mountain improvements, skier services, the Village at Sugar Bowl, and summer activities.
Meanwhile ski-in, ski-out home construction continues in the newest real estate sub-division – Summit Crossing. With the successful launch of a custom home program, we are on track to have new home inventory ready for this ski season.
