Bluesdays will once again return to Squaw Valley this summer, bringing free concerts by some of the country’s best blues acts to The Village at Squaw Valley every Tuesday evening from June 17 through August 26.
The free concerts will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Village Events Plaza.
The weekly festival features some of the most applauded musical talent from all over the country, including Grammy nominated musician Mark Hummel, Billboard Top 100 artist Paul Thorn, and internationally touring “powerhouse” performer Nikki Hill. The Blues Monsters, a homegrown blues group from Reno-Tahoe, will also take the stage to wow the crowd with their impressive musical chops.
In addition to the live concerts in The Village, guests can also sample “Blue Plate” food specials like sushi, gyros or pizza, and kick back with a cold brew, glass of wine or cocktail from the Blues Bar. Village shops and boutiques will offer Bluesdays shopping specials for those looking to scoop up some of the best deals of summer.
For the full Bluesday experience, guests can enjoy $10 off adult rides on Squaw’s scenic Aerial Tram and $5 off child, youth and senior tram rides. The Tram rises 2,000 feet from the base area to High Camp, where families can enjoy mountaintop activities such as swimming, poolside dining, roller skating, a climbing wall and hiking.
In conjunction with the weekly blues performances, The Village at Squaw Valley is offering a Bluesdays lodging discount on Tuesday nights allowing guests to stay in a condominium-style suite for just $99. Restrictions apply.
Featured blues acts for summer 2014 include:
June 17: The Blues Monsters – For more than 20 years, The Blues Monsters have taken center stage in Lake Tahoe and Reno. They have been voted the #1 Blues Band in North Lake Tahoe for 7 years running by bringing the crowd to their feet during their lively shows.
June 24: Mark Hummel Band Ft. Little Charlie Baty – Mark Hummel is a Grammy nominated artist and winner of two Blues Music Awards this year. His trademark harmonica sound coupled with a strong sense of swing keeps the crowd engaged and enjoying every note.
July 1: Chris Cain – Chris Cain’s unique sound has been dubbed “the future of the blues.” His jazz-tinged, blues soaked guitar and deep, warm vocals have established him as a force on the music scene.
July 8: Studebaker John & The Hawks – Studebaker John is recognized as an exciting guitarist, fine blues harpist, and skilled vocalist, with his vast musical talents coming together to create a raw blues sound.
July 15: Candye Kane – Los Angeles native Candye Kane is recognized for her sassy and showbiz-savvy blend of blues and soul. She puts her own contemporary twist on the classic blues style forged by the likes of Bessie Smith and Etta James, by bringing a sultry edge to the stage.
July 22: Homemade Jamz Blues Band – Hailing from Tupelo, Miss., the Homemade Jamz Blues Band is a trio of young, powerful musicians who, despite their youth, sing of love, betrayal and hard times as if they have lived a life rich in strife.
July 29: Paul Thorn – This Tupela, Miss. native has been pleasing crowds for years with his bluesy, rocking and thoroughly Southern style of music. His 2010 album “Pimps and Preachers,” broke into the Billboard Top 100, perfectly exemplifying the vivid scope of his songwriting and musical talent.
August 5: Nikki Hill – She may be a newcomer, but Nikki Hill is climbing her way to the top of the roots music scene and leaving jaws on the floor along the way. She has a soulful sound that was born while singing in the gospel choirs at church as a child. After pairing up with her rock-and-roll guitar playing husband, the two, along with other members of their band, make an unstoppable team establishing themselves as roots and rock and roll powerhouses.
August 12: Hamilton Loomis – Hamilton Loomis has the ability to bridge the gap between generations of music-lovers with his blend of myriad influences, clever songwriting and an expressive voice that defies description. His energetic, get-in-the-crowd antics are infectious, bringing the crowd to their feet, swaying and clapping.
August 19: Shane Dwight – Shane Dwight’s specialty is guitar. With eight CDs and two “Live” DVDs under his belt, Dwight’s music has been played on hundreds of radio stations in over 40 different countries, earning him considerable praise and accolades along the way. He has garnered a solid reputation as a “guitar slinger,” and has shared the stage with blues greats including B.B. King, Etta James, Los Lonely Boys, and the Doobie Brothers.
August 26: Terry Hanck – Terry Hanck is an old-school rock and roll saxophonist and singer who is inspired by the 1950s and 60s New Orleans R&B hits. Hanck says his soulful sound is timeless and traditional noting, “I write songs you think you’ve heard for years.”
