Squaw Valley resort will be hosting a beer event on Aug. 30, and one day later switch the focus to wine.
The 25th annual Foam Fest returns to Squaw Valley on Saturday, Aug. 30 from 2-6 p.m. It’s an afternoon of craft beer tasting, live music and a raffle, with all proceeds benefiting Disabled Sports USA Far West – a nonprofit organization that has led the way in adaptive sports and recreation for people with disabilities.
Wine lovers can enjoy early fall in the Sierra at the 26th annual Alpen Wine Festival, held on Sunday, August 31 from 2-5 p.m. in The Village at Squaw Valley. All proceeds from the festival benefit Can Do MS, a national nonprofit organization sponsoring lifestyle empowerment programs for people with Multiple Sclerosis and their support partners.
Foam Fest: Beer enthusiasts can meander through an open-air vendor village at the KT Base Bar and sample a diverse array of more than 50 craft beers from popular breweries, including Alaskan Brewing Co., Deschutes Brewery and Tahoe’s very own Tahoe Mountain Brewing Co and FiftyFifty Brewing Co.
While exploring the unique tastes and flavors of some of the country’s best beer, guests can enjoy live musical performances by folk-rock band Miner (from 2-3 p.m.) and bluegrass sensation Hot Buttered Rum (from 3:30-6 p.m.).
The famous “Hit the Slopes” raffle returns this year with great giveaways including skis, snowboards, season passes to several Tahoe resorts, and a California Gold Pass – good for skiing at 27 California and Nevada resorts for the 2014-15 winter season.
Last year, Foam Fest raised $22,000 for Disabled Sports USA Far West. This year’s goal is to raise $30,000 for the nonprofit.
Beer tasting tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Price includes unlimited beer sampling. For those who are not participating in beer tasting, a $10 donation is encouraged for entry into the event. Children 12 and under are free.

Alpen Wine Festival: For a $40 donation, guests can enjoy wine from more than 40 Northern California vineyards, including Dogwood Cellars, Head High Wines, Frank Family Vineyards, Wanderlust Wines and Venge Vineyards. Electric jazz band Charged Particles will also be performing at the festival.
Amidst the celebration of wine and music, guests can explore the silent auction and raffle, which includes Squaw Valley lodging packages, shopping sprees, restaurant gift certificates, lift tickets, art and unique wines by the bottle and case.
Last year, the Alpen Wine Festival raised $21,000 for Can Do MS, and has raised more than $230,000 for the nonprofit in the last 10 years.
