Thanks to a foot of new snow this week and some cold temperatures, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski resorts in Lake Tahoe fired up their snowmaking systems.
This is a positive step as the two related and neighboring ski resorts begin planning their openings for skiing and snowboarding. Opening day is set for Nov. 25 at Squaw Valley and Alpine has a Dec. 11 opening scheduled.
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows has invested $8 million in snowmaking over the last five years, and this year will engage 17 new high efficiency snowmaking guns to provide a quality snow surface for the 2015-16 ski and ride season. These efforts will supplement the natural snowfall from what is forecast to be an above average winter season.
Skiers and riders looking to take full advantage of this season’s snowfall can purchase the Tahoe Super Pass starting at $429 for adults, and have access to 6,000 acres, 42 lifts and over 270 trails at both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. While supplies last, Tahoe Super Pass Silver and Gold passholders will receive the Worry Free Guarantee: those who don’t ski or ride at least five days on this season’s pass will be credited up to four days towards their 2016-17 pass.
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows boasts the region’s only mountain-top beginner areas and several intermediate skier havens, including Shirley Lake and the newly renamed Pacific Crest Bowls.
