A storm that hit the Lake Tahoe region was more forceful than expected, judging by the snow totals from both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.
Both the North Lake Tahoe ski resorts reported Sunday (March 1) that they had 3 feet of new snow at their upper elevations.
In the last 24 hours, Squaw Valley has received an additional 15 inches of fresh snow, bringing the storm total to 32 inches. At Alpine Meadows, the storm total now sits at 28 inches of fresh snow since Friday afternoon, with nearly a foot of snow falling in the last 24 hours.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a second storm is expected to move through the region Monday, bringing additional snowfall in the Lake Tahoe region through Tuesday morning.
Sugar Bowl ski resort was dropping two feet of new snow at the top, and allowing for more terrain and facilities to open up. Starting today. The Judah Lodge will reopen, and 9 lifts, including Crow’s Peak and Jerome Hill Express, will service powder-filled runs all day.
“Recent colder temps allowed us to fire the snow guns all week on the Judah side, and with the latest snow we are able to open up that side (Judah) of the mountain too,” Monson said. “Needless to say, the mountain operations team and ski patrol is out there taking full advantage of the storm, prepping and readying as much terrain as possible for skiers and riders.”
