Spring skiing is a time in Lake Tahoe for fun activities on the slopes. And one of those annual activities is the Dummy Downhill at Diamond Peak ski resort.
April 6 is this year’s designated day of dummies at Diamond Peak!
The Dummy Downhill has been a favorite community event for past 13 years and every year it seems to get better. Dummy Downhill participants need to build a dummy on skis or snowboards that can be launched off of a big jump.
Spectators watch in amazement as unique characters fly down the hill or crash hard. This is the flugtag for dummies!
DiamondPeak ski resort is located in Nevada’s InclineVillage. The affordable, family-friendly resort offers breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe, a summit elevation of 8,540-feet and a 1,840-foot vertical drop. Skiers and boarders can experience 655 acres of beginner to advanced terrain that includes open glades.
Those who enter a dummy can receive up to two free lift tickets for their Team Captains to launch their dummy. The Dummy Downhill is open to the public and there are no registration fees.
Dummies need to be at the base lodge by 11 a.m. to be judged on creativity with the jumping and awards ceremony to follow. Prizes and certificates will be awarded for creativity, best crash, furthest distance, etc.
Participants can pre-register their dummy online or by emailing the names of the Team Captains and dummy name to[email protected]. Onsite registration will be available on the day of the event from 9-11a.m. on the Base Lodge Deck.
Dummy builders are encouraged to be as creative as they can. The following restrictions apply to all dummies: they cannot be live and must weigh 75 pounds or less. Teams will be required to help clean up and remove dummies and debris afterward. At least one person from each team must be available to help transport, load and unload their dummy at the top of the launch.
Incline Elementary School (IES) is also participating in the 2014 Dummy Downhill as part of a class project this year, using it as a way to introduce kids to engineering.
All of the kids are contributing ideas and strengths with teamwork as a major theme.
“The Dummy Downhill is a fun and engaging way to introduce our students to engineering and the design process,” said Eric Harssema, the third grade teacher of the class that won the Dummy Downhill last year, says. “Engineering is a major component of our new science standards and we hope participation in dummy downhill event will become tradition at IES. The day of the event will be great fun and we encourage all students and parents to attend.”
Spectators can watch the Dummy Downhill from the Base Lodge and Loft Bar decks.
