It’s beginning to look a lot like winter at Lake Tahoe ski resorts. And that’s a good thing, because ski resorts are anxious to open in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Two Tahoe ski resorts – Mt. Rose and Boreal Mountain – opened on Friday and four other resorts are scheduled to open Wednesday, Nov. 23.
Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows reporting this morning that 7 inches of snow has fallen and it’s still snowing. With cold temperatures and more snow in the forecast today and later this week, the two neighboring resorts anticipate opening Wednesday.
“We are eager to kick off the season and look forward to opening the resort as early as weather and conditions permit,” said Andy Wirth, president and CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings.
Northstar California also received 7 inches of snow and Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe is reporting 4-5 inches. Both resorts are scheduled to begin running lifts Wednesday.
“We are thrilled to say that winter is here,” said Northstar spokesperson Marcie Bradley.
According to KCRA-3 TV in Sacramento, many Lake Tahoe resorts could receive 6-12 inches today at lower elevations and as much as a foot of snow at its highest peaks.
Mt. Rose and Boreal Mountain opened for skiing and snowboarding Friday morning. Mt. Rose has access to four beginner trails serviced by the Wizard quad and the Flying Jenny surface lifts on the Main Lodge side of the resort. Boreal has one lift running.
