A much-awaited snow storm hit Lake Tahoe Thursday night and continued into the early morning hours, dropping up to 11 inches on Lake Tahoe ski resorts.
Mt. Rose and Northstar California were the largest benefactors of the storm, getting 11 inches at their peak. Seven of Lake Tahoe’s 14 ski resorts recorded 9 or more inches from the latest storm. And more good news is two storms remain next week.
Besides the fresh powder, skiers and snowboarders were blessed to see sunny weather Friday.
Northstar received 7 inches at mid-mountain. Two other Vail Resorts – Kirkwood Mountain, Heavenly Mountain – got as much as 7 inches of snow. Squaw Alpine now has 28 lifts open that access 74 trails.
Homewood Mountain was loving the idea of adding 10 inches of fresh snow overnight to its slopes.
“We’re thrilled to have fresh snow, and to be expanding our terrain with the opening the Quail and Ellis chairlifts this weekend,” said Kevin Mitchell, general manager of Homewood Mountain Resort. “Our guests will have access to intermediate, advanced and expert terrain from top-to-bottom, and with more snow in the forecast later this weekend. Conditions are only going to get better.”
In addition to the trails accessible from the Quail and Ellis chairlifts, beginner lifts and terrain are available at Homewood’s North base accessed by The Magic Carpet and Happy Platter.
Homewood has the best value on lift tickets among Tahoe resorts, with prices starting at $49 per person, per day when purchased online in advance. In addition, kids ages 4-under ski free all season long.
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows was pleased to add another 10 inches to their snow totals. The resort has 28 open lifts with access to 74 trails.
Sugar Bowl, Soda Springs and Boreal Mountain also received 10 inches of snow, while Sierra-at-Tahoe was reporting 9 inches.
Weather forecast: It’s questionable if there will be more snow Friday evening. Saturday is shaping up to be another Tahoe-characteristic bluebird day with little concern regarding the elements and no snow likely. It will be chilly, a predicted 20’s on the upper mountains to 30’s at lake level both Saturday and Sunday.
Opensnow forecaster Bryan Allegretto is predicting a light snow Sunday evening. He says that “things get a little more interesting starting Tuesday.” Snow will be falling Tuesday night through Thursday night. The result could be 1-2 feet of new snow. The snow levels should be fairly low throughout this storm.
