This snow total is reminiscent of past years when snow totals were sizable practically every year. Sugar Bowl ski resort is loving its current numbers, which are residing at 514 inches right now.
Sugar Bowl ski resort, located off Interstate 80 at Donner Summit, has the most reported snow among Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts. All of Tahoe’s resorts have bounced back this year with impressive snow totals.
Recent storms have dropped nearly a foot of snow at Northstar California ski resort, putting its snow total just over 400-inch mark for the 2015-16 season. All three Vail Resorts in Lake Tahoe – Heavenly Mountain, Northstar California and Kirkwood Mountain – are reporting strong totals, guaranteeing they will all be open into April.
Northstar is currently reporting 411 inches of natural snowfall to date this season. A sizable winter snow storm hammered the Lake Tahoe region over 10 days, coming at a time when many of Tahoe’s ski resorts needed some fresh snow after a mostly dry, warm February.
Kirkwood recorded 16 inches of snow Saturday evening, 42 inches in the past seven days, and now right at the 400-inch mark. Heavenly received 22 inches over the past week and has a season-total of 313 inches.
Sierra-at-Tahoe, which is located off Highway 50 heading into South Lake Tahoe, is reporting 386 inches.
Simultaneous snow storms spanning the western U.S. have added 1 to 4 feet of fresh snow during the onset of March. There has been more than a foot of fresh powder at Colorado’s Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, and Keystone resorts, plus a foot of new snow at Utah’s Park City Mountain.
March is often one of the snowiest months during the ski season. Additional snow and storm patterns are forecast throughout each of the three regions in the approaching week.
