We like to call this the “silly season” for Tahoe ski resorts. Multiple resorts in the region plan fun spring skiing events as the season winds down toward closing.
Sugar Bowl is one of those Tahoe ski resorts that has fun awaiting skiers and snowboarders heading into its final three weekends before its season losing date of Sunday, April 17.
TIKI POND SKIM: Sugar Bowl says you can watch its bravest souls try to glide across its formidable tropical waters April 16.
“After taking a few years off during the pandemic, we are so excited to bring this event back. We’re planning to build it bigger and better than ever,” a Sugar Bowl press release stated.
Although participants in this year’s Tiki Pond Skim event quickly got to full capacity, spectators can watch the fun for free on the edge of the pond.
However, if you missed the chance to sign up for the pond skim, there’s still have a chance to win. By capturing the best video or photo of a slam and tagging @sugarbowlresort and #tikislam, participants can win a prize as well.
At 10:01 am on Saturday, April 1, the extra spaces will be released to wait list in person. Sugar Bowl will accept 15 names on the waitlist.
SKIM POND LOCATION: The waters are located at the Nob Hill and Disney chairlifts, allowing easy access to spectators within walking distance of the Belt Room Bar.
The location features a steep run for ample speed, uninterrupted views of the sunny sky, and close earshot proximity to hecklers from the Nob Hill chairlift
Judging categories include Best Costume, Most Stylish, Distance and Biggest Splash.
