The memory of snowboarder Natasha “Tash” Sagucka will live in infamy at Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort.
Sierra-at-Tahoe has dedicated an event in loving memory of the local snowboarder at its USASA “Jammin’ 4 Tash” event Saturday, Jan. 20 on the Broadway Trail. Additionally, Natasha will be commemorated each year on the last USASA Rail Jam event held at Sierra.
A Rainbow Rail terrain park feature was made in Natasha’s honor and will be incorporated into the setup. A cash purse of $1,000 has been donated by Natasha’s mother, Margaret Sagucka, in memory her involvement with USASA.
Natasha competed in USASA events for seven years, from 2000-2007. She felt most alive at Sierra-at-Tahoe, surrounded by the resorts trees and snow. As a tribute to her love of the mountains, Natasha is able to be remembered in her most peaceful state: snowboarding. Natasha was a victim to Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and passed away in early November 2017.
“Natasha would have loved helping kids do what they love to do, snowboard and ski. She felt so empowered up on the mountain and would want others to feel the same,” Margaret Sagucka said. “I feel this ties into her love for nature, the mountains and Sierra-at-Tahoe. Her passion for snowboarding and for the place she loved and lived in Tahoe.”
USASA Members are invited to participate in honor of Natasha. Sierra-at-Tahoe invites all interested to register – entry fees for non-members is $45. Registration will take place in Solstice from 7:30-9 a.m. on the morning of the event.
A portion of the proceeds go to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Cancer Research for A.L.L to support further research of diseases. Other support comes from the apparel brand, Love Your Melon, who is donating hats to all competitors and from USASA Sponsors. The rail jam will take place at the bottom of Broadway near the west end of the Solstice Plaza – great for spectators.
Sierra-at-Tahoe is located just 12 miles from South Lake Tahoe
