The wait is over at Sierra-at-Tahoe. The popular ski resort near South Lake Tahoe opened Wednesday (Nov. 25) for the 2020-21 season.
Starting Wednesday and lasting through Sunday, Sierra-at-Tahoe is open exclusively for Season Pass and seasonal product holders. Day lift tickets will become available for use starting Monday (Nov. 30). Tickets are currently available through the resort website, but are not redeemable until Monday.
“The recent snow has gifted us with a winter playground,” Sierra General Manager John Rice said. “Sierra is ready to welcome passholders back to their mountain home and give them the outdoor escape we have all been anxiously awaiting.”
Sierra becomes the seventh Tahoe ski resort to open for the season. Also open are Heavenly, Northstar, Boreal, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Mt. Rose.

COVID-19 SAFETY: While the essence of skiing and riding will remain unchanged, operational changes throughout Sierra-at-Tahoe will be implemented to maintain an environment that allows for outdoor recreating, with safety precautions in place.
Sierra is committed to the National Ski Area Association’s “Ski Well, Be Well” initiative as well as employing additional procedures specific to its resort operations that can be found on the Sierra website at How 2 Play page.
The plan includes new expectations and protocols on cleaning, sanitization, mask use, distancing, and other safety related parameters. Further operational updates may be added to dynamically adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines. Guests are encouraged to stay informed by embracing the “Know Before You Go” restrictions.
WHAT’S AVAILABLE: Limited services will be available, as lodges and indoor dining options will be closed under current capacity guidelines. Private lessons and rentals will be available in reduced quantities and advanced reservations for lessons are strongly encouraged.
“We are grateful to return for another season to offer an experience that will allow guests room to roam while providing an outdoor environment for our winter family to enjoy,” a Sierra press release stated. “With the entire winter season ahead of us, we look forward to opening up the opportunity to ski/ride to our daily visitors on Nov. 30, with contactless tickets available through our website.”
