One more Lake Tahoe ski resort has extended its season, thanks to excessive amounts of snow. Sierra-at-Tahoe announced that it has pushed back its closing date to April 23.
It’s been such an incredible winter for snow that at least 11 Lake Tahoe ski resorts have already far surpassed their average season snow totals. The Tahoe resorts have not only exceeded season totals, the numbers are way above average totals.
Sierra-at-Tahoe typically averages 400 inches of snow and is far above that amount with 537 inches for the 2016-17 season.
The resort is extending winter season and will continue operations through April 23 and will also honor guests with Customer Appreciation Day on Monday, April 24.
Skiers and riders of all ages can purchase a Sierra-at-Tahoe lift ticket for only $35 on April 24. Lift ticket proceeds on Customer Appreciation Day will benefit youth recreation and education including baseball, soccer, swimming and other youth activities in South Lake Tahoe.
“With 537 inches of natural snowfall and counting, this season has truly been one for the books,” said Sierra-at-Tahoe General Manager John Rice. “Customer Appreciation Day is all about saying thank you. We want to show our most loyal guests that we value this community and are willing to support year-round recreational opportunities for our kids.”
Located 12 miles east of South Lake Tahoe, Sierra-at-Tahoe is a great place to ski and snowboard on high-wind days because it features wind-protected slopes. It offers some terrific tree skiing, and 320 acres of backcountry terrain that are located out of the Huckleberry Gates.
For freestylers, Sierra has a reputation for innovative terrain parks. The resort has been recognized by TransWorld SNOWboarding as the No. 1 Best Value and a Top 10 Overall Resort as well as among the Top 10 Best Parks and Pipes in the nation. For beginner skiers and riders, Sierra-at-Tahoe offers over 100 acres that is dedicated learning terrain, and includes four beginner-only conveyor lifts.
On Customer Appreciation Day, Sierra-at-Tahoe will operate a limited number of lifts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including Grandview Express and Easy Rider Express. All guests are invited to join Rice and the rest of Sierra’s team for the official “last run of the season” from the top of Grandview Express beginning at 2 p.m. Last call at the Sierra Pub will be 2:45 p.m., in time for the ending of all winter operations at 3 p.m.
Earlier this month, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows announced it will be open through May and lifts will be running the Fourth of July. Mt Rose says it will also be open in May and several other resorts ae extending their season into late April.
