The Ikon Pass just got a lot more appealing to skiers and snowboarders who frequent Tahoe ski resorts.
The 2024-25 Ikon Pass will now offer four California’s mountain destinations when Sierra-at-Tahoe joins Ikon Pass this winter. Overall, there are more than over 50 global Ikon Pass destinations, including California resorts – Palisades Tahoe, Mammoth Mountain, Sierra-at-Tahoe and June Mountain.
For the 2024-25 season, Ikon Pass holders will have access to seven days at Sierra-at-Tahoe with no blackout dates. Ikon Base Pass holders will have access to five days, with select blackout dates. Sierra-at-Tahoe will also be available on the Ikon Session Pass.
“We are excited to expand Ikon Pass access in California by offering even more in the Tahoe area,” said Erik Forsell, Chief Marketing Officer, Alterra Mountain Company. “Sierra-at-Tahoe is an ideal fit for the Ikon Pass community with its big snow and welcoming vibe. Ikon Pass holders now have access to both sides of Lake Tahoe with Sierra-at-Tahoe and Palisades Tahoe.”
Skiers and riders can purchase the Ikon Pass here at its current rates before prices go up later this year.
NEW DESTINATION: The closest mountain destination to Sacramento and the Bay Area, Sierra-at-Tahoe is located off Highway 50, 12 miles from South Lake Tahoe. It is the sixth-largest ski area in California.
Sierra has more than 2,000 acres with a 2,212-foot vertical drop served by nine lifts, including three high-speed quads.
Known for its welcoming vibe, sculpted learning terrain, and amphitheater-style terrain parks, and South Lake Tahoe’s only Halfpipe, Sierra-at-Tahoe averages 400-plus inches of snowfall a year and is sometimes South Tahoe’s go-to choice on a powder day.
“Sierra-at-Tahoe is proud to partner with Ikon Pass. As the only South Lake Tahoe resort on the Ikon Pass, we’re excited to give skiers and riders a new opportunity to visit our slice of heaven,” said John Rice, General Manager, Sierra-at-Tahoe. “Sierra has long been known for its always-friendly vibe and terrain variety. The resort has wide open bowls, fresh fall lines, the big mountain feel Huckleberry Canyon offers, and award-winning terrain parks.”
Sierra-at-Tahoe has recovered from the 2021 Caldor Fire, which destroyed several lifts and forced the resort to miss an entire winter to rebuild the ski area and clear unstable burned trees. Joining the Ikon Pass should help steer the resort back to stability after skier visits failed to rebound to pre-fire levels.
Alterra will not purchase the resort. Sierra-at-Tahoe is an independent mountain and the last remaining ski area property of Booth Creek, which at one time owned eight ski areas, including nearby Northstar (now owned by Vail Resorts).
Exclusive member benefits include Friends & Family discounts, Ikon Pass Travel, a Protect Our Winters membership, and more. Pass holders can also purchase Peak Perks, a collection of benefits and discounts exclusively tailored for Ikon Pass holders, from gear to innovative services.
NEW ACCESS IN NEW MEXICO: Sierra-at-Tahoe isn’t the only addition to the Ikon Pass for the upcoming season.
Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico, which had left the Ikon Base Pass for the more expensive Base Plus pass last year, will now be available on the Ikon Base Pass, offering five-day access with select blackouts.
