U.S. Olympic skier Mikaela Shiffrin has joined forces with Alterra Mountain Company as an investor and is helping launch the Ikon Pass as an Ambassador.
The Ikon Pass will debut in the Winter 2018-2019 and offers skiers and snowboarders access to 23 iconic destinations. The California resorts include Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain and Big Bear Resort.
The reigning World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist, Shiffrin is an icon in her own right. She was the youngest woman in U.S. history to win a World Championship and the youngest athlete in history to win an Olympic slalom gold medal.
To date, she has one Olympic gold medal, three FIS World Ski Championships gold medals, and 41 FIS World Cup victories. Next month she will head to the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Shiffrin is a native of Colorado and has spent years training and racing at Ikon Pass destinations such as Mammoth Mountain, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Aspen Mountain and Copper Mountain in Colorado, and Killington Resort in Vermont.
“Igrew up skiing on mountains big and small with my family, so when I’m in the mountains, I’m home. These resorts each played an important role in my career and hold a special place in my heart,” Shiffrin said. “I’ve spent more time training on snow at Ikon Pass destinations than anywhere else in the world, since first skiing the World Cup in 2010. It is a huge honor to be an owner in Alterra Mountain Company and to represent the Ikon Pass.”
Shiffrin has been training to be a professional athlete since she was age 3 when she would ski down her driveway at home. She was in the start gate of her first World Cup at age 15. Since then, she has made a name for herself in becoming the premier female skier in the world.
“Mikaela has spent her entire life on the slopes, and shares a love of the mountains that mirrors the passion behind the Ikon Pass,” said Erik Forsell, Alterra Mountain Company’s Chief Marketing Officer. “She represents the best of skiing today and continues to set the tone for the ski racers of the future. She defines the spirit of the community of destinations we have brought together.”
