Santa Claus will be making an early appearance, hitting the slopes Saturday (Dec. 9) at Mt Rose Ski Tahoe.
Actually, there will likely be many skiers and snowboarders in Santa Claus costumes.
Skiers and riders outfitted in their Kris Kringle red and white or anything related to the holidays – elves, candy canes, shiny presents, Mrs. Claus, ect. – are invited to participate in the resort’s annual Santa Ski Day.
Discounted lift tickets priced at $69 will be available for purchase for those wearing Santa costumes. Note that a simple Santa hat does not qualify for the discounted ticket.
Mt. Rose is experiencing mid-winter conditions across the entire mountain. Consistently cold overnight temperatures have allowed the resort to continue its snowmaking efforts.
The resort, located in Nevada off the Mt. Rose Highway, has five of its seven lifts operating, providing access to 44 open trails in all areas of the mountain, ranging from beginner to advanced terrain “Santa Ski Day has been a signature event at Mt. Rose for years, and is something our guests look forward to every season,” said Mike Pierce, marketing director at Mt. Rose. “It’s a fun kick-off to the Great Reno Santa Pub Crawl Saturday night, and we think that pairing it with snow-covered slopes is the perfect way to ring in the holiday season.”
At 10:45 a.m., the mass Santa Ski Down will take place, with all participants invited to meet at the base of the Northwest Magnum 6 lift to head up the mountain as a group.
Other activities will include a “poker run” from 10 a.m. to noon, an eggnog station on the mountain, starting at 10:30 a.m., and a ski and snowboard raffle at the Timbers Bar in the Main Lodge at 1 p.m. (beer purchase required for raffle entry).
The poker run will feature five locations on the mountain where dealers will offer opportunities for guests to draw a card. The 10 best hands will win various swag.
The resort is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lift tickets currently available for purchase for $125 for adults, and $75 for kids ages 15-under when purchased on-site.
Skiers and snowboarders can take advantage of the best available price on lift tickets when purchased online in advance.
The Lodgepole Café, Timbers Bar, Higher Grounds Coffee Bar, Equipment Rental and Repair Shop are open, and lessons are available daily for both kids and adults.
