A break in the weather Monday has rewarded skiers and snowboarders with an extraordinary powder day at Tahoe ski resorts.
Following a week where multiple Tahoe ski resorts were reporting triple-digit snow totals, Monday (Feb. 18) was a welcome sight – a sunny day with no snow and fresh powder in abundance.
Check out the latest snow totals below in the TAHOE SNOW REPORT.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno, the snow goes away and the sun settles in for a couple of days before a chance of snow arrives Wednesday night into Thursday morning in the Lake Tahoe region.
Incredible season snow totals continue to accumulate at Tahoe ski resorts. Squaw Valley has received 110 inches in the past week, pushing the resort over the 500-inch (503) mark for the 2018-19 season. Squaw Valley has the most snow this season among Lake Tahoe’s 14 ski resorts and predictably had a busy Monday, the final day of Presidents’ Day weekend.
“As is usually the case during Presidents’ Week, attendance was very high today at both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows,” said Squaw-Alpine spokesperson Alex Spychalsky. “Coupled with the record-breaking storm, we just emerged from new terrain opening with feet of fresh powder and the first blue skies we’ve seen in a few days. It was a perfect storm of circumstances to make today a very busy day at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows.”
Homewood Mountain on Tahoe’s West Shore has reported 119 inches over the last week, hiking its season snow total to 458 inches. Boreal Mountain has 439 inches and Kirkwood Mountain is not far behind with a season-total of 432 inches.
Located next to Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows is also enjoying huge snow totals this season. It has received 95 inches over the past week and has a snow total of 419 inches to date.
While the snowfall drastically reduced Sunday, that wasn’t the case with Heavenly Mountain. The famed South Lake Tahoe ski resort received 31 inches by Monday morning, increasing its seven-day total to 105 inches and 362 for the season.
Northstar California woke up Saturday morning (Feb. 17) with 19 inches of new snow. That pushed its total to 199 inches this month, breaking the previous record of 188 inches in 2017. Northstar has added 30 inches to its February totals in the past two days.
One day earlier, Squaw Valley was reporting it had established a new snowfall record for February. To date, it now has added 246 inches of snow in February, shattering the old mark of 196 in February 2017.
And that new record will likely keep increasing with more snow predicted in the final 10 days of February. Squaw is three feet 37 shy of surpassing its snowiest month on record (January 2017 with 282 inches).
