Another snow day at Tahoe ski resorts. What’s new, right? Rinse and repeat!
It’s been snowing practically nonstop all week at Lake Tahoe and don’t look for it to be letting up anytime soon.
CHECK OUT TAHOE SNOW REPORT BELOW
As of Saturday morning (Feb. 25), more than 4 feet of snow has fallen since the beginning of the week and the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno is forecasting another 5 feet from an incoming, multi-day storm that is expected to enter the region Sunday morning.
“While the snow will be relatively consistent, the most intense snow will be Monday evening to Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning,” the NWS told the Tahoe Tribune.
Considering the abundance of snow Tahoe ski resorts have enjoyed this season, the latest totals sound familiar. The region has been hit hard with snow again this week.
Boreal Mountain has received the most snow over the past 48 hours, reporting 44 inches Saturday morning. It’s been a banner year for snow at Boreal, the only Tahoe ski resort to offer regular night skiing.
Located off Interstate 80 at Donner Summit, Boreal has received 454 inches of snow this season (the most in Tahoe) and is among the top-5 in season snow totals among all North American ski resorts for the 2022-23 season.
Several other Tahoe ski resorts reported big totals the past two days. Tahoe Donner got 35 inches, followed by Kirkwood (33 inches), and Sugar Bowl and Palisades Tahoe, both receiving 32 inches.
“(This morning’s totals) brings our 4-day storm total to 52 inches so far, with feet of additional snow on the way,” a blog on the Palisades Tahoe website stated.
WEATHER FORECAST: Saturday is yet another powder day and should begin with a very brief break in storms the first half of the day. The high temperatures during the storm period are not expected to go above freezing.
The NWS is reporting there’s a 75-plus percent chance of exceeding 4 feet of snow in the high Sierra over the multi-day period. The heaviest snow is expected to begin sometime Sunday and last into Tuesday morning.
STIFEL PALISADES TAHOE CUP: The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) gave the go-ahead Thursday for Palisades Tahoe to host the Giant Slalom and Slalom events, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday off the Red Dog chair at the base of the mountain.
“It’s a great honor to be the host resort for the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup as we continue to bring international competition back to our legendary slopes,” says Dee Byrne, COO and President of Palisades Tahoe. “From the 1960 Winter Games to the 1969 Men’s World Cup, and most recently the 2017 Women’s World Cup, we’re looking forward to bringing an international competition to our resort under our new name.”
