For women who enjoy mountain biking and want to expand their knowledge and skills, Northstar California in Lake Tahoe has a number of events this summer.
Northstar California will host an exciting lineup of weekly events and specialized activities geared to meet the needs of women. Locals and visitors are invited to try their hand at mountain biking and hone their skills alongside Northstar’s team of world-class coaches.
During the 2014-15 winter season, Vail Resorts launched the 4Her initiative, offering one-on-one ski and snowboard instruction for women, by women. This summer, Northstar is continuing the trend of customized activities that are women-centric.
Northstar California is located on Highway 267, just six miles north of Lake Tahoe and six miles south of downtown Truckee.
“At Northstar, we recognize that women’s busy schedules don’t allow them to spend much time learning new outdoor activities. We want to encourage them to give mountain biking a try by providing targeted programs and specific woman-to-woman coaching opportunities to make them feel comfortable and supported,” said Beth Howard, vice president and general manager of Northstar California. “We want there to be an atmosphere of learning, trying new things, challenging oneself, and creating shared experiences across all riding levels and abilities in a motivational environment.”
LUNAChix Women’s Cross Country Clinic: Northstar will host a cross-country clinic for women on Tuesday, June 23 featuring professional female coaches Katerina Nash, Teal Stetson Lee, Suzie Snyder and Kara LaPoint with the Tahoe LUNA Chix.
The pro riders will meet participants at the base of the Big Springs Gondola at 5 p.m. and guide them through drills to improve mountain biking technique on the mountain until 7:30 p.m. Riders are asked to bring a $15 donation to the Breast Cancer Fund.
Pumps on Pedals Returns for Summer 2015: The popular women’s-only weekly mountain bike ride, Pumps on Pedals, will begin summer operations Friday, June 26, reoccurring every Friday evening through September Northstar California in making friends and honing their downhill, freeride and cross-country mountain bike skills.
Rental equipment is available at the Northstar California Bike Shop, and riders renting gear should arrive by 4:15 p.m. to be outfitted. $25 Pumps on Pedals lift tickets are available in the Tickets & Season Pass Office and check-in is at the base of the Big Springs Gondola at 4:45 p.m. The ladies will ride from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and are invited to unwind and share tales of the trail together in The Village at Northstar afterward.
Pumps on Pedals Women’s Weekend: New this summer is the Pumps on Pedals Women’s Weekend, featuring two full days of mountain bike coaching, breakfast and lunch.
From August 15-16, ladies new to mountain biking, as well as seasoned riders, are invited to learn during the bike maintenance session, warm-up, a talk on the fundamentals of mountain bike riding and a full day of bike practice, exploration and camaraderie.
