Despite no new snow, Northstar California ski resort in Lake Tahoe has opened additional terrain for the Christmas holidays.
Northstar California announced Friday that it has expanded terrain on The Backside that now includes Drifter, a blue run accessible by riding the Tahoe Zephyr Express chairlift. The opening of the run connects the Backside Express chairlift. The new terrain provides skiers and snowboarders with access to The Backside on both intermediate and expert trails.
With the addition of the new terrain, Northstar now is operating 17 of its 20 lifts that provides access to 41 trails.
Northstar will be celebrating Dec. 31 with the New Year’s Eve Fire & Ice Celebrations. The night includes the outdoor ice skating rink, cabanas, The Who cover band, an ice bar, and warm fire pits. The evening culminates with a fireworks show at 9 p.m. Tavern 6330’ transforms into Club 6330’ where the party continues for adults until 1 a.m.
Also opening more terrain this week was Sugar Bowl. The resort off Interstate 80 and the Donner Summit opened the Disney lift Thursday, accessing four more runs. Sugar Bowl is running nine lifts that have access to 31 trails.
