Mt. Rose ski resort near Lake Tahoe is offering one final weekend of skiing and snowboarding before closing for the season on Memorial Day.
Located on Mount Rose Highway in Nevada, Mt. Rose is encouraging skiers and riders to not wear pants this holiday weekend – ski pants that is!
In celebration of the extended season and warm temperatures, Mt. Rose has declared this “no pants weekend” as it encourages skiers and riders to hit the slopes in bathing suits and board shorts.
The resort will finish strong with more than 13 feet of snow still stacked up on its slopes. Access to all areas of the mountain and terrain for all ability levels will be via four lifts, including Northwest 6, Blazing Zephyr 6, Wizard and Chuter. Skiing and riding takes place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Monday, May 29.
The popular Chutes area, which features steep expert runs, will remain open, conditions permitting, with daily review by the resort’s ski patrol. The Lodge Pole Cafe is open in the Main Lodge from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and the Timbers Bar from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lessons are no longer available this season, and all open resort services are available from the Main Lodge.
Lift tickets are available for $60 for adults, $30 for kids ages 6-15, and $25 for locals both Sunday and Monday.
The resort has received has 768 inches of snow this season. That shatters the old Mt. Rose mark of 600 inches in 1994-95. The ski resort has recorded 500 or more inches five times in its history.
“It’s been a record season in a big way,” said Mt. Rose spokesperson Mike Pierce said. “This season just won’t quit, and we can’t say we’re not happy about it. The conditions have been phenomenal. For the second year in a row, this marks another six-month ski season and is a testament to our tagline, ‘8,260 – Where the Snow Is.’”
Donner Ski Ranch: The family-friendly resort off Interstate 80 and Donner Summit will operate Chairs 1 & 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Memorial Day Weekend. Tickets are selling for as little as $12. There will be drinks, food and barbecue on the deck and also homemade pies.
It’s been quite the season for snowfall at Donner Ski Ranch, which has received 762 inches. The enormous snow total is the primary reason the ski resort has decided to keep operating. Donner Ski Ranch has not announced a closing date yet.
Squaw Valley: The famed Olympic ski resort remains open Memorial Day weekend for skiing and riding. Squaw has also committed to remaining open in June and also Fourth of July and beyond.
Beyond the Fourth of July, Squaw Valley plans to operate the Shirley Lake Express chair on Saturdays for 2017-18 Tahoe Super Passholders. Discounted daily lift tickets will also be available.
This is the fourth time that Squaw has remained open on July 4 and the first time in resort history to go past that date.
