While many Lake Tahoe ski resorts are closing this month, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe continues to offer good conditions with the majority of its terrain still open thanks to its high base elevation at 8,260 feet.
With snow depths of two to five feet, skiers and riders can count on making spring turns at Mt. Rose through the end of the regularly scheduled season, April 19.
“The spring skiing and riding conditions at Mt. Rose are incredible right now. We’re enjoying warm temps during the day which requires less layering, and the spring corn snow has made for some fun turns throughout the day,” said Mike Pierce, director of marketing at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe. “It’s not time to pack the skis and boards away just yet. The conditions are perfect not only for those just learning, but for those who enjoy making buttery turns at this time of year.”
There are eight ski resorts in Lake Tahoe that are closed and Diamond Peak is shutting down its lifts on Sunday. The list includes Sugar Bowl, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Soda Springs, Granlibakken, Homewood Mountain, Donner Ski Ranch, Tahoe Donner and Royal Gorge, a cross country resort near Sugar Bowl. Other notable closings include Dodge Ridge, Badger Pass and Mt. Shasta Ski Park.
Spring Season Passes have been reduced and are on sale, allowing resort guests to take advantage of the fun spring snow conditions and established base Mt. Rose has maintained all season. Spring Pass options allow skiers and riders to purchase their 2015-16 season pass now and enjoy unlimited skiing or riding the rest of this season and all of next winter.
The Premier Pass, valid seven days per week with no blackouts, is available for just $479 for adults, $379 for young adults (ages 16-23), and $249 for children (ages 6-15). The Mid-Week Pass is valid Monday through Friday, including holidays, the reminder of this season and all of the 2015-2015 winter season for just $379.
Mt. Rose continues to have fun on the slopes this spring, and has events, including the Tahoe Burner Ski and Greet still on the schedule. On Sunday, March 29, resort guests are invited to purchase $42 discounted lift tickets if dressed in full “Burner” wear.
Themed after the popular Burning Man event held annually in Nevada, the Tahoe Burner Ski and Greet will take place at the Winters Creek Lodge and will include live music featuring DJ Chango and Sneaky Creatures, the Human Burner Slalom, fashion show, and performances by Tahoe Flow Artists, fire dancers and the Hullusions.
A First Timer package will also be available that day for $65 (at the Main Lodge only) including lift ticket accessing beginner terrain, equipment rental and two hour group lesson for ages 11-plus.
Mt. Rose is open daily for the winter season from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and with new dynamic lift ticketing this season, the farther in advance lift tickets are purchased, the bigger the savings. Mt. Rose continues to offer incredible value for those taking ski vacations, with Stay & Ski packages available in Reno starting at $99 per person, per night. Some restrictions apply.
