Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe was not only the first ski resort in the Lake Tahoe region to open this season, it has a nice surprise for skiers and snowboarders: night skiing.
Following a sizable early snow storm, Mt. Rose opened Wednesday (Nov. 4) and is hoping to stay open regularly for the 2015-16 season. The resort, just 25 minutes from Reno, Nev., will be offering night skiing and riding Friday (Nov. 6) and Saturday.
Mt. Rose ski resort will be open this Friday and Saturday evening until 7 p.m. on Show-Off, accessed by the Flying Jenny Conveyor lift. Beginning Friday, there will also be four terrain park features set up in this zone.
Mt. Rose will only offer night skiing occasionally, typically early season.

Mt. Rose ski resort adding four beginner chairs
Thanks to recent snowfall and continuously cold temperatures that have allowed Mt. Rose to take advantage of its enhanced snowmaking system, the resort announced today that it will open the new Wizard lift Friday, accessing three additional beginner trails in the Enchanted Forest Family Zone. The Wizard lift replaces the former Ponderosa Chair. This chair was realigned this summer to provide access to the new Enchanted Forest family zone.
“The winter season is off to a great start at Mt. Rose,” said Mike Pierce, marketing director at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe. “Cold temperatures are forecast to continue through the weekend heading into the chance for more snowfall Sunday into Monday. Our team is working hard to continue to open more terrain and offer a high quality skiing and riding experience for those coming up to Mt. Rose.”
The resort is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Beginning Friday, lift tickets will be available for purchase for just $20 for adults, and $10 for kids ages 6 to 15. The Lodgepole Café, Timbers Bar, Repair Shop, First Timer Ski and Snowboard lessons and Equipment Rentals will also be open.
Mt. Rose originally projected an Oct. 29 opening. However, warm temperatures through Halloween prevented that from happening. Despite the delay, Nov. 4 was the earliest opening in the resort’s long history.
“Mt. Rose benefits from having the highest base elevation at Lake Tahoe, so early season storms, paired with the cold temperatures, we’re starting to see set us up well to offer some of the best early season snow surfaces in the region,” Pierce said.
