The first winter storm in the Lake Tahoe region dumped 14 inches of snow on Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe. And the resort is quickly capitalizing on the early snow, almost immediately announcing it would be the first Tahoe ski resort to open this season with lift tickets available for a mere $10.
Opening day of the 2015-16 ski season for Mt Rose is Wednesday, Nov. 4. Not only does Mt. Rose have more than a foot of new snow it has also been making snow since the storm hit Sunday evening and continued into Monday.

The resort plans to be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lift tickets available for purchase for a discount price of $10. The Lodgepole Café, Timbers Bar and Repair Shop will also be open.
Although only one trail is scheduled to be open, there’s no doubt enthusiastic skiers and snowboarders will be heading to Mt. Rose, which is located on Mt. Rose Highway in Nevada, a short distance from Reno.
Open terrain will be limited to one trail accessed by the Flying Jenny Conveyor lift on the Main Lodge side of the resort.
“It’s great to see the storm door open this early in the season, and the snow starting to pile up,” said Mike Pierce, director of marketing at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe. “We plan to take full advantage of our high base elevation and the cold temperatures that are forecast, and will continue to make snow at every opportunity so we can open more terrain as quickly as possible.”
With a chance of light snow showers expected to continue through mid-week, and cold temperatures in the long-range forecast, the resort has fired up its snowmaking system.
Mt. Rose originally projected an Oct. 29 opening. However, warm temperatures through Halloween prevented that from happening. Despite the delay, Nov. 4 will be the earliest opening in the resort’s long history.
“Mt. Rose benefits from having the highest base elevation at Lake Tahoe, so early season storms, paired with the cold temperatures, we’re starting to see set us up well to offer some of the best early season snow surfaces in the region,” Pierce said.
