If skiing or snowboarding early Friday or Saturday evening is one’s idea of a tremendous way to enjoy the weekend, there is one more option among Tahoe ski resorts – Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe.

For a third straight season, Mt. Rose will stay open late for skiers and snowboarders. Operations will continue until 5:30 p.m. both days this week. Following until Daylight Savings begins on March 9, the Mt. Rose schedule extends until 6 p.m. until the conclusion of the season, which right now is TBA.
Making the most of daylight saving and the resort’s huge snow conditions – 284 inches this season – the Nevada ski resort near North Lake Tahoe will be extending hours of operations by two hours and gives skiers and riders the opportunity to take “bonus runs” this spring.
“We are making the most of longer days and mid-winter snow conditions, and giving skiers and riders the opportunity to take ‘bonus runs’ with an extra two hours on Fridays and Saturdays,” said Mike Pierce, Mt. Rose marketing director. “This is one of the perks of having Tahoe’s highest base elevation (8,260 feet). In addition to enjoying exceptional snow conditions, skiers and riders can start their weekend off right by skiing longer at Mt. Rose.”
The Northwest Express, Lakeview Express, Wizard and Magic lifts will stay open late on Fridays and Saturdays, along with the Snowdeck off the Lakeside trail – offering beer, wine, snacks, and terrific views of nearby Lake Tahoe.
The “Ski G.I.F.” Friday Daily Special discounted ticket offered after the noon hour makes Fridays even more special with the later skiing and snowboarding and a deal on lift access. For those who want to extend the weekend, “Bonus Mondays” offer heavily discounted Monday lifts tickets for anyone who skis at Mt. Rose the previous Saturday or Sunday (void on holidays).

Although far more prevalent among eastern ski resorts in the U.S., night skiing is not as popular out west. Most Tahoe ski resorts stop running lifts between 4-4:30 pm each day.
For several decades, Boreal Mountain, located off Interstate 80 at Donner Summit, has been offering night skiing, its hours typically 9 am to 8 pm. For multiple years, Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw Valley) offered night skiing from 3-7 pm, but that is no longer offered.
In Southern California, Bear Mountain and its sister resort – Snow Summit – have select night skiing throughout the season. Mountain High in SoCal also offers night skiing. Several Washington state ski resorts also provide skiing under the lights.
Mt. Rose is located off the Mt. Rose Highway, approximately 10 miles from Incline Village in North Lake Tahoe and 25 miles from Reno. Its summit area reaches 9,700 feet. The resort has received 10 inches of snow this week and its season total (284 inches) is second in the region to Sugar Bowl (291 inches).
