Seven Tahoe ski resorts were reporting 10 or more inches of snow Saturday morning.
While that’s great news for Tahoe skiers and snowboarders, and meant a terrific powder day on Saturday, those totals could be considered low when resorts check their latest snow totals Monday morning.

Multiple weather outlets are reporting a huge dumping that begins Saturday night and continues through much of Sunday, before lightening up Monday (Feb. 5). The National Weather Service is reporting heavy snowfall accumulation Sunday of 10 to 16 inches with 15 to 23 inches above 7,000 feet. Other outlets are predicting even larger snow totals.
“The main event is approaching and will bring Tahoe the biggest storm of the year,” says Bryan Allegretto of OpenSnow.com. “The latest model runs show some lighter snow showers moving in Saturday evening from the south, and then the steadier snow moving in around midnight and becoming heavier into Sunday morning. Steady snow continues Sunday night into Monday, with snow showers Monday night as the storm winds down.”
Palisades Tahoe had the most snow among Tahoe ski reports, adding 15 new inches Saturday morning and 23 inches overall in the past three days.
“Today is a beautiful bluebird pow day in between another powerful storm set to hit on Sunday, hopefully bringing over 3 feet of snow to the Sierras,” said Palisades Tahoe spokesperson Maddy Condon.
Kirkwood also had a sizable dumping, getting 13 inches by Saturday. Both Sugar Bowl and Boreal had 12 inches, while Sierra-at-Tahoe (11), Homewood (11) and Soda Springs (10) all had double digit totals. Boreal’s three-day total is the most among Tahoe ski resorts – 37 inches.
GROUNDHOG DAY: Punxsutawney Phil popped his head out Friday morning and didn’t see his shadow, which Groundhog Day legend means we are in for an early spring.
It’s anything but spring-like right now in Lake Tahoe, which had three straight days of snow this week. And following a likely snowless day Saturday, the snow is expected to return on five of the next six days. That’s good news for Tahoe ski resorts, which have been below their annual snow totals all season long.
