Like many skiers and snowboarders over the Christmas holidays, Maddie Bowman was enjoying the excellent conditions at Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort.
A U.S. gold medalist winner in the Women’s Ski Halfpipe at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Bowman grew up on the slopes of Sierra-at-Tahoe and was back on the mountain this week. She was exploring Huckleberry Canyon today (Jan. 3), part of the five backcountry gates that Sierra opened today,
Sierra-at-Tahoe will host Subaru Conquer Winter Day on Saturday, Jan. 9. This free event highlights an athlete signing with the 21-year-old Bowman. Bowman will be signing autographs in the Subaru tent from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday.
“This is a unique opportunity for guests and inspired young adults to meet a professional athlete who represents the heart and soul of this mountain,” says John Rice, general manager of Sierra-at-Tahoe. “Maddie grew up here, progressed through our programs and now exemplifies not only a world-class skier, but an outstanding role model for young skiers and riders.”
Subaru Conquer Winter Day is open to guests of all ages and will be staged on Sierra’s Solstice Plaza, the 30,000 square foot sun deck located at the base of the resort. Subaru will have giveaways and guests can win a chance to have lunch and ski with Bowman on the day of the event.
With help of recent storms, Sierra-at-Tahoe was able to open 100 percent of the mountain. That means 2,212 vertical feet and more than 2,000 acres, which includes Huckleberry Canyon.
The forecast shows a significant storm this Tuesday and several other possible snow days this week.
