The storm that dropped nearly a foot of fresh snow Thursday was kind to many Lake Tahoe ski resorts.
Both Northstar California and Alpine Meadows received 10 inches of fresh powder. Squaw Valley was reporting 8 inches of snow on its upper mountain, while Mt. Rose added 7 inches and Kirkwood got 5 inches
Sugar Bowl will open again for the weekend. The resort is reporting 10 inches of new snow.
Northstar has 39 runs available with more expected this weekend.
“Our whole village is covered (with snow),” said Marcie Bradley, a spokeswoman for
Northstar. “It’s like a winter wonderland up here. It’s awesome.”
Squaw is currently operating 13 lifts and 27 open trails. Today, Squaw opened Bailey’s Beach and Mountain Meadows runs, accessed via the Aerial Tram. On Saturday, Squaw anticipates opening Big Blue.
Alpine is currently operating 2 lifts and 15 open trails. Alpine expects to open Summit Six, Meadow, and Little Carpet.
Intermittent chances of snow showers remained in the forecast for today, according to the National Weather Service. Skies were expected to clear for Saturday with the next chance of snow coming Sunday and an unsettled weather pattern that could bring more precipitation to the mountains for the first half of next week.
