Considerable snow fell Tuesday evening at Lake Tahoe ski resorts and there is much more on the way over the next four days.
Snow forecaster Bryan Allegretto of Opensnow.com, predicts that when the latest series of storms comes to a halt sometime this weekend, the snow totals for Lake Tahoe ski resorts will range from 18 to 54 inches.
More optimistic snow predictions were calling for up to 100 inches from the storm – which is a little over 8 feet of snow.
Homewood Mountain was the big winner in regards to snow totals from the storm that started Tuesday morning. Located on the West Shore of North Lake Tahoe, Homewood received 18 inches of new snow, leading to a powder day Wednesday morning for skiers and snowboarders.
Eleven of Lake Tahoe’s 14 ski resorts received 10 or more inches by Wednesday morning. Light snow has continued to drop periodically Wednesday at Lake Tahoe ski resorts.
Sugar Bowl ski resort was reporting 17 inches Wednesday morning and Kirkwood Mountain was right behind with 16 inches.
Both Boreal Mountain and Tahoe Donner Downhill received 14 inches of new snow. Sierra-at-Tahoe got 13 inches and Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows had 12 inches.
Allegretto is predicting that 3-5 inches of snow will accumulate Wednesday on the west side of Lake Tahoe and the east side should receive 1-4 inches. The heavy snow is likely to return Thursday.
“The next wave of heavier snowfall is expected to move in Thursday night into Friday,” according to Allegretto. “We could see an additional 6-10 inches at lake level and 7-15 inches on the mountains Thursday night, and then another 2-5 inches at lake level and 3-9 inches on the mountains Friday.”
Look for light snow throughout Saturday and the storm clearing out by Sunday. However, another storm could hit Lake Tahoe ski resorts by Tuesday (March 20).
