For Josh Daiek, the season is off to a great start.
Daiek began the season today (Jan. 22) by placing second in the men’s ski competition of the SWATCH Freeride World Tour (FWT). The event took place at Courmayeur Mont Blanc in Italy and was the first of six events on the FWT this season.
Daiek is a Kirkwood local and Epic Team member at the ski resort near Lake Tahoe.
“We are extremely proud of all of Josh’s skiing accomplishments and to have him as a Kirkwood representative on the Epic Team,” Casey Blann, General Manager of Kirkwood Mountain Resort said. “He has trained here for a number of years and we’re happy but not surprised that he has done so well in international competition.”
Daiek’s run today began with two massive cliff drops that earned the appreciation of the event’s judges and spectators. He earned a score of 87.5, only one point of the day’s leader, Loïc Collomb-Patton of France.
Daiek will have home field advantage when the tour arrives at Kirkwood Mountain Resort on Saturday, March 1 this winter.
“The terrain at Kirkwood is perfect for big mountain competition,” Blann said. “We can’t wait to again host this world class event in March. It’s going to be the most exciting week of the year in Tahoe.”
Before the FWT arrives in Kirkwood it will stop in Chamonix Mont Blanc in France and Fieberbrunn Kitzbüheler Alpen in Austria.
