Always near or at the top of the list when it comes to seasonal snow totals in the Lake Tahoe region, it’s not surprising that Kirkwood Mountain Resort is reporting the most snow from last night’s snow storm.
Winter definitely has arrived in the Lake Tahoe area. The snow began Friday afternoon and kept coming steadily through the evening, dumping 24-36 inches of snow at Kirkwood ski resort, allowing the resort to open new terrain today (Dec. 7) and make plans for additional expansions in the near future.
“The quality of snow this system has produced here is amazing,” says Casey Blann, General Manager of Kirkwood ski resort. “With cold overnight temperatures and a base elevation of 7,800 feet, the snow we received is light, dry and plentiful.”
Snowy, cold storm
This snow system has bolstered what has been an efficient week of snow making at Kirkwood ski resort. The arctic cold temperatures over the last five days have allowed the Kirkwood’s snow making team to operate at 100 percent of capacity.
“We plan to expand the open terrain at Kirkwood ski resort as we approach the holidays,” Blann said. “The slopes are in great condition and we look forward to providing the amazing experience our guests expect when they come toKirkwood.”
Kirkwood benefits from its location
Kirkwood ski resort is located along scenic Highway 88. The resort says that its base elevation of 7,800-feet, assures skiers and snowboarders more annual snowfall than any other resort in North America.
