Although the ski season in Lake Tahoe was a disappointment with inadequate snow totals, the result is a longer golf season at places like Incline Village Golf Courses.
The two Incline Village Golf Courses will have early opening dates for the 2015 golf season. The Mountain Course, an 18-hole executive course, opens May 1 and the Championship Course opens May 8. The Championship Course will open a week after the Mountain Course due to the extra maintenance and projects required for the larger course.
“This is the earliest I’ve seen the courses open,” said Senior Head Golf Professional Michael McCloskey. “The mild winter and lack of snow on the courses contributed to the early opening.”
The driving range at the Championship Course is already open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The chipping green opened April 10 and the putting green opens May 1. Call the Championship Course Golf Shop (775 832-1146) to book a lesson.
The Grille at the Chateau, located at the Championship Course, also opens May 8. The Grille will introduce a revamped menu for 2015, including new entrees and sauces that debuted at Diamond Peak’s Wild Bill’s BBQ. The Grille serves lunch and happy hour daily with views of the 18th green, mountains, and Lake Tahoe from the dining room or patio.
Mountain Course Opening Day (May 1)
Located at 690 Wilson Way in Incline Village, this 18-hole, par-58 course is fun and affordable. The Mountain Course features an amazing mountain layout with old growth trees, elevation changes, and incredible views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. You can play the whole course in 3.5 hours or just play 9 holes. Events like Nine & Wine, Thrill & Grill and Sunday Family Fun Days are a non-intimidating way to play the course.
Championship Course Opening Day (May 8)
Located at 955 Fairway Blvd. in Incline Village, designer Robert Trent Jones Sr. called the course “the ideal mountain layout” with “views you will never forget.” With tightly cut fairways and fast greens, it demands accuracy and distance. Golfweek Magazine rated the Championship Course a “Top 10 Best Course You Can Play in Nevada.” The course also boasts a top-of-the-line restaurant, The Grille at the Chateau, a driving range and practice facilities.
