Apparently Christmas is still taking place at Homewood Mountain Resort. Homewood ski resort has a little power stash that the north Lake Tahoe resort will unveil Friday (Dec. 27).
Homewood ski resort will open four powder-filled previously unopened north-facing runs to the public. Homewood is located off Highway 89.
Powder stash off the Ellis chair lift
Following the Thursday opening of Homewood ski resort’s Ellis chair lift, General Manager Kevin Mitchell began scouting the conditions off the north-facing slope of Rainbow Ridge, and found great in-bounds snow conditions on the upper portions of the Lake Louise, Kolby’s Escape, Miner’s Delight and Bonanza runs.
“After getting a look at how good the snow is on the upper portions of the runs off Rainbow Ridge, I knew we had to open them up to the public to enjoy,” Mitchell said. “I don’t think there are any other resorts in Tahoe offering fresh tracks right now.”
Skiers and riders at Homewood ski resort will be able to access the new-found powder stashes via the Ellis chair lift, and will have to return to Rainbow Ridge approximately a third of the way down the normal length of the runs, as the Old Homewood Express chair is not yet open.
Homewood has 19 trails open
The new terrain opening Friday brings Homewood ski resort’s total to 19 open runs, with seven terrain park features, three on-mountain dining establishments and après-ski specials at the lakefront West Shore Café and Inn.
Homewood’s lift ticket prices during this holiday period remain at just $69 for adults with advance purchase online (by midnight the day before), or $79 at the resort.
DJ at Big Blue Bar on Saturday
On Saturday at Homewood ski resort, Lake Tahoe’s best mid-day break spot – the mid-mountain Big Blue View Bar – will celebrate the start of another season of live DJs spinning tunes on Saturday afternoons with DJ Paul kicking things off at noon.
Despite the new-found powder stashes, early-season conditions do still exist at Homewood, and guests are encouraged to ski and snowboard with caution.
