There will be plenty of fresh snow for skiing and snowboarding when Homewood Mountain opens Thursday (Dec. 5) for the 2019-20 season.
Following a significant snowstorm that greatly benefitted all Tahoe ski resorts over the Thanksgiving holiday, Homewood is no different, reporting more than 4 feet of fresh snow at the top of the mountain.
On Thursday morning, Homewood Mountain was reporting 51 inches of snow at its summit and 28 inches at base level.
Located off Highway 89, six miles south of Tahoe City, family-friendly Homewood kicks off the season for skiing and riding Thursday for pass holders only and Friday (Dec. 6) to the public. The resort has perhaps the best views of Lake Tahoe.
“We’re excited to get the winter season underway, and to offer skiers and riders an authentic mountain experience with unreal views of Lake Tahoe from every trail,” said Kevin Mitchell, Homewood Mountain Resort general manager. “Thanks to significant early-season snowfall, skiers and riders can expect incredible early season snow conditions that are only going to get better with the snow that is in the forecast this weekend. We anticipate the incoming storm will allow us to open more lifts and terrain quickly.”
For pass holders only Thursday, Homewood will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Both Thursday and Friday skiing and snowboarding is expected to be available off Old Homewood Express with downloading from the Madden Chair to return to the North Lodge.
Starting Friday, the resort will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with food and beverage options in the North Lodge from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the bar open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Other available services will include retail and equipment rental.
Homewood season passes, which include FREE ski days at 22 partner ski resorts across the nation, are available here. Prices start at $679 and feature no blackout dates or restrictions.
Homewood offers perhaps the lowest daily lift ticket prices among Tahoe ski resorts. Skiing and snowboarding is available for as low as $64 per day when purchased online in advance.
DIAMOND PEAK OPENING: Thanks to more than 3 feet of snow that arrived over the past week, Diamond Peak will open early, running its lifts for the first time Saturday, Dec. 7.
Diamond Peak will become the 12th Tahoe ski resort to open for the 2019-20 season.
SNOW REPORT: Kirkwood Mountain reported Wednesday (Dec. 4) it had received 92 inches of snow, highlighting how the snow totals keep piling up at Tahoe ski resorts. Kirkwood has recorded the most snow among Tahoe ski resorts in the past week. It had over 7 feet during that time span and has 104 inches for the season.
Two other Vail Resorts have enjoyed great early-season snow totals. Heavenly Mountain has received 55 inches the past week and has 86 inches overall. On Tahoe’s north shore, Northstar California got 81 inches over the past week.
It has been snowing substantially over the past week in the Lake Tahoe region and the forecast is calling for more snow starting Friday and through the weekend.
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows has also watched its snow totals continue to mount. Squaw received 62 inches over past week and Alpine Meadows had 57 inches. On Wednesday (Dec. 4), the Roundhouse lift was opened at Alpine Meadows. The resort has 10 lifts and 33 trails open across both mountains.
Sierra-at-Tahoe has gotten 70 inches of snow over the seven-day period, while Sugar Bowl has received 49 inches and Mt. Rose got 41.
