Some welcome November snowfall and low overnight temperatures have led two of Lake Tahoe’s iconic ski resorts to open a few days early for the 2024-25 season.
Following 9 inches of new snow in the past week, Heavenly Mountain Resort announced it will open two days earlier than originally planned on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
On the other side of Lake Tahoe, Palisades Tahoe announced the resort will be kicking off its 75th season by opening five days earlier than originally planned, getting its lifts running Friday, Nov. 22.

One Tahoe ski resort is currently open. For the third straight season, Mt. Rose was the first Tahoe area ski resort to open on Nov. 8.
HEAVENLY: Located in South Lake Tahoe, Heavenly will continue making snow when temperatures are low enough and will monitor conditions to determine when to expand terrain and lift offerings leading up to and following its official opening.
“It has been such a privilege to work alongside this dedicated mountain operations team as they have been working tirelessly ahead of our opening day,” said Shaydar Edelmann, Vice President and General Manager of Heavenly Mountain Resort. “Thanks to them and some recent help from Mother Nature, we can open for the season two days ahead of schedule.”
The Gondola will operate on Heavenly’s original opening date (Nov. 22) for sightseeing only with no initial ski or ride access. Also, the Ridge Rider Mountain Coaster at the top of the gondola will be open throughout the Thanksgiving holiday period as conditions permit
PALISADES TAHOE: To mark its 75th anniversary season, Palisades Tahoe is offering $75 lift tickets from Nov. 22 through Nov. 27.
Opening day festivities will include:
- Complimentary breakfast burritos for guests
- Palisades Tahoe 75th anniversary swag giveaways
- Live DJ
Thanks to recent snowfall and the tireless efforts of the mountain operations team, both sides of the mountain – Palisades and Alpine – will have available terrain on opening day, offering skiers and snowboarders an early start to this historic season.
“We’re incredibly excited to kick off our 75th anniversary season early,” said Amy Ohran, Chief Operating Officer of Palisades Tahoe. “This is a testament to the dedication of our mountain operations team and the spirit of these legendary mountains. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the slopes and celebrate this historic season together.”
SUGAR BOWL: In honor of its inaugural opening in 1939, Sugar Bowl will be offering $39 lift tickets for its season opener (Nov. 22).
To celebrate its 2024-25 opening, Sugar Bowl will offer first chair riders a limited-run tee. There will be live DJ music and a champagne toast.
NORTHSTAR CALIFORNIA: One of three Vail Resorts in Lake Tahoe, Northstar California will open one day earlier than expected – running its lifts Thursday, Nov. 21 at 8:30am.
With the help of consistent natural snowfall in the last week and work from our top-tier snowmaking team, Northstar says it’s ready to offer skiing and snowboarders to the opening of the 2024-25 season.
