Lift operators are most anonymous, doing their job with little fanfare. However, some notoriety has come to Vincent Murillo, a lift operator at Diamond Peak ski resort in Lake Tahoe.
Murillo recently received the 2015 Rocky Mountain Lift Association “Lift Operations Person of the Year” award. He is the Lead Lift Operator and Maintenance Assistant at Diamond Peak.
Every year the Rocky Mountain Lift Association in cooperation with Willis Mountain Guard Insurance, honors an “Operation Person of the Year and a Maintenance Person of the Year” at their annual conference. All nominees were acknowledged, but only one person from each category was chosen.
“We strive to offer exceptional customer service and a quality product to our skiers and couldn’t do that without great employees like Vincent on our team,” said Brad Wilson, Diamond Peak’s General Manager.
Murillo has worked at Diamond Peak the past four seasons and was promoted to Lead Lift Operator after his first season. He helps manage and train the lift operations employees during the winter and maintains the lifts during the summer.
Murillo’s supervisor, Erik Castaneda, nominated him for his dependability, attention to detail, and hard work ethic.
“Vincent always puts safety and customer service first and helps instill this in our employees,” Castaneda said. “On multiple occasions he has discovered anomalies or unsafe situations and taken immediate action to solve the problem.”
Located in Nevada’s Incline Village, the family-friendly resort offers breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe, and a summit elevation of 8,540-feet and a 1,840-foot vertical drop. Skiers and boarders can experience 655 acres of beginner to advanced terrain that include open glades.
Diamond Peak is currently hiring lift operator/ticket checkers and other positions for the 2015-16 ski season. Winter jobs are posted online at YourTahoePlace.com/Jobs.
Job seekers can create a profile and apply for jobs online or at the Incline Village General Improvement Office (893 Southwood Boulevard). Diamond Peak will also host a Winter Job Fair in the Base Lodge on Saturday, November 7 from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. Applicants are encouraged to apply in advance and then meet managers in person at the job fair.
