Diamond Peak ski resort joins the early-season party, opening a week earlier than scheduled on Thursday, Dec. 5.
Located of Highway 431 in Incline Village, the North Tahoe ski resort features terrific lakeside views and typically small crowds. Although considered one of Lake Tahoe’s smaller resorts, community-owned Diamond Peak has the fourth most skiable vertical (1,840 feet on 655 acres) in the Tahoe Basin.
“Thanks to the hard work of our snowmaking team and some cold pre-season temperatures provided by Mother Nature, we’ve had a productive run of snowmaking so far this year,” said Paul Raymore, Diamond Peak Marketing & Communications Manager.”
Chairlifts and runs planned for opening day include the Crystal Express, Lodgepole and School House chairlifts and Crystal Ridge, Sunnyside, Lodgepole and School Yard ski runs. Additional lifts and terrain may be open, conditions permitting. Full details can be found on the Mountain Report page of the Diamond Peak website.
“With a solid base on the terrain we’ll have open for opening day, we’re stoked to open early and give all of our passholders and community members another week of fun on the slopes,” Raymore said.
Savings are available by purchasing a 3-Day Flex Pass multi-day lift ticket. This direct-to-lift mini pass offers three days of skiing or snowboarding any day this winter and is valid all season. A 3-Day Flex Pass is on sale through Dec. 2, with discounted rates as low as $120 per day for adults, $100 per day for youth and seniors, and $50 per day for children.
MORE OPENINGS: Three other Tahoe ski resorts – Sierra-at-Tahoe, Kirkwood, Granlibakken – are opening for Thanksgiving weekend.
That puts the total of Tahoe ski resorts operating lifts for the holiday weekend at 10, including Heavenly, Northstar, Sugar Bowl, Palisades Tahoe, Boreal Mountain, Sugar Bowl, and Mt. Rose, the first Tahoe ski resort to open (Nov. 8).
KIRKWOOD: With 29 inches of new snow, the resort of Highway 88 is opening six days earlier than originally scheduled, running its lifts for the first time Saturday, Nov. 30.
On opening day, skiers and riders can access Chairs 5, 6, 7, and 9 from 9 am to 4 pm. These four chairs will offer access to 365 acres and one terrain park, providing terrain for all skill levels.
SIERRA-AT-TAHOE: The recent storm paired with the resort’s snowmaking efforts allowed the resort to open early, starting Friday, Nov. 29.
Open at 8:30 am is the Easy Rider Express lift, two magic carpets and a selection of terrain park features on Broadway.
Lift ticket prices are – adults ($80), young adults & seniors ($70), kids (5-12) & Super Seniors ($50). Kids 4-under ski for free, but a ticket must be picked up in the pass office before riding the lifts.
GRANLIBAKKEN: The historic snow play area at Granlibakken Tahoe, founded almost 100 years ago, opened for sledding Thanksgiving Day. Tickets are available online and at the Granlibakken ski hut.
Sledding tickets include a 90-minute session on the groomed hill and use of a sledding saucer. Advance online ticket purchases are recommended.
The full winter season at Granlibakken is scheduled to kick off Dec. 13 and will include skiing, snowboarding, lessons and equipment rentals. There are also miles of trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN: With 62 inches of total snowfall so far this month, November 2024 marks the snowiest November at Mammoth Mountain in the past 14 years.
The most recent storm cycle has moved on and it’s looking like blue skies and clear weather for Thanksgiving weekend shredding and into next week.
Mammoth is located on California’s Eastern Sierra range, approximately 100 miles south of the Nevada state line and 50 minutes from the eastern gate of Yosemite,
