For only the second time in its long history, Diamond Peak will be offering skiing and snowboarding into May.
Due to its sizable season snow total and more than two feet or more possibly arriving this week, Diamond Peak announced it would be extending the season for three extra weeks with a new closing day of Monday, May 1, its latest date in 56 years.
As of Tuesday morning (March 28), Diamond Peak had received 404 inches of snow for the 2022-23 season. The amount is the second most in resort history, trailing the 2016-17 season snow total of 476 inches.
“With an incredibly deep snowpack in place, and an ongoing winter storm dumping more fresh snow on North Lake Tahoe, Diamond Peak is thrilled to announce we’ll be extending our season all the way through May 1 this year,” said Diamond Peak spokesperson Paul Raymore. “This should be an incredible spring season, with the weather trending toward some classic Tahoe bluebird days after this current storm cycle.”
The only other time Diamond Peak offered May skiing was its inaugural season – 1966-67 – when the resort was named Ski Incline. That was the resort’s longest season when it offered skiing 170 days, starting Nov. 19 and ending May 7.
Besides offering its second largest snow total this season, Diamond Peak expects to operate 148 days, also the second most in resort history.
Located off Highway 431 in Incline Village, the resort has a large amount of trees that make it wind protected most days, and it’s also devoid of any terrain where avalanche danger is a concern. In a season when almost all Tahoe ski resorts have been shut down multiple times due to high winds and blizzard-like conditions, Diamond Peak has only closed once this season (March 10).
Family-friendly Diamond Peak is the only community-owned ski resort in the Tahoe Basin. It is known for its gorgeous views of nearby Lake Tahoe, uncrowded runs, easy access from the parking lot to the slopes, and affordable lift ticket and season pass prices.
DIAMOND PEAK SEASON PASS: Season passes for the 2023-24 season went on sale Monday (March 27). Note that prices increase May 1.
Anyone who purchases a 2023-24 season pass and isn’t already a current passholder, can ski free for the remainder of this season.
“With massive snow totals so far this season, and the prospect of excellent conditions throughout the month of April, a season pass can more than pay for itself this spring alone,” Raymore said.
