Diamond Peak ski resort joined many other resorts in the Lake Tahoe region by announcing an early closing. The family-friendly resort in Incline Village will offer its final day of skiing and snowboarding Sunday, March 29.
A mild storm did bring a few inches of snow this week to Diamond Peak. But it won’t last long with the unseasonably warm temperatures predicted for the remainder of the week.
“Given what Mother Nature dealt us this winter, we did an amazing job and offered some of the best conditions in the region. Huge thanks to our snowmaking and grooming team, entire staff, and our skiers and riders,” said Brad Wilson, Diamond Peak General Manager.
There are 22 ski resorts in California that are now closed, including nine in Lake Tahoe. Joining Diamond Peak on the list are Sugar Bowl, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Soda Springs, Granlibakken, Homewood Mountain, Donner Ski Ranch, Tahoe Donner and Royal Gorge, a cross country resort near Sugar Bowl. Other notable closings include Dodge Ridge, Badger Pass and Mt. Shasta Ski Park.
Closing weekend at Diamond Peak is filled with fun events, live music, parties and the 15th annual Dummy Downhill.
“We’ll be partying Saturday a
nd Sunday, so come one, come all. Let’s have a ball,” says Eric Kertzman, Incline Village General Improvement District Sales Manager.
Below is a schedule for the remainder of the week.
Friday, UnBirthday Celebration: Diamond Peak offers a free lift ticket on your birthday all season long, but what if your birthday falls outside of ski season? No problem, they are holding UnBirthday Day.
If your birthday falls anytime between March 30 and December 19, get a free lift ticket. Bring your valid photo ID to the ticket window to receive an UnBirthdayticket.
Saturday, Undy Ski Day & Sam Adams Party: Diamond Peak is partnering with the Incline Village Community Hospital to put on Undy Ski Day in honor of Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Wear undies for a $35 lift ticket; participate in Zumba at 11:15 a.m. on the deck, live music by 6Pac, Undy ski mobs, and more!
Wear undies over your ski pants, on your helmet, as a cape, etc. Skiers and riders are urged to wear pants or leggings under their undies. The fun continues with a patriotic après-ski party sponsored by Sam Adams with games, relay races, samples, and giveaways in the Loft Bar from 2-5 p.m.
Sunday, Dummy Downhill: Build a dummy on skis (or a snowboard) that gets launched off a big jump on Show-Off and see what happens. Spectators can view the action from the Base Lodge deck.
Pre-register dummies online at www.diamondpeak.com by March 28. Paul David and the Drivers will be playing live music on the deck after the competition. This wacky event is fun for the whole family.
Early Happy Hour: Celebrate the end of the season with early happy hour on the weekend, starting at 2 pm in the Loft Bar. There are $3 draft beer specials, $3 house wine, $4 cocktail specials. Sam Adams draft beer will be $3 all day Saturday and all draft beer will be $3 on Sunday.
Note that 2015-16 season passes go on sale July 1 and Diamond Peak plans to continue the reciprocal pass program with partner resorts.
