The Board of Directors of Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association announced recently that it will be offering a Fall/Winter Comp/Devo Nordic training program starting this September.
Following a very successful 2014/15 ski season, the The Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association (TCCSEA) is offering a fun year-round age appropriate program for athletes at both the development level and competition level with a focus on cross country skiing skills for junior athletes.
This is also an excellent program for athletes participating in other sports. The Tahoe Cross Country group head coach and the coaching staff will lead athletes in activities that combine classic skiing, skate skiing, roller skiing, hiking, running, bounding, strength conditioning and other fun activities such as paddle boarding, mountain biking, yoga, laser biathlon, soccer and Frisbee.
The program combines multi-sport activities that allows the athlete to develop skills that are advantageous for higher level athletic endeavors. The goal is to create lifelong patterns of health and fitness through the sport of cross country skiing.
The training program is open to all athletes 6th through 12th grades who are motivated to have fun and improve their fitness throughout the year as well as work on their ski specific technique for skate and classic. Sessions will be divided by program type and/or ability levels to ensure appropriate workouts while at the same time maintaining a fun team environment.
What is the difference between Devo and Comp programs?
Devo (Ages 11-15): The Junior Development Program’s goal is to prepare young athletes for the cross country ski season through a variety of activities that will improve their strength, agility, endurance and ski technique. As athletes advance beyond our Devo program, the Comp Team provides them with the necessary coaching and tools to pursue high-level competition.
Comp (Ages 14-19): The Competition team will work with coaches to develop an appropriate training schedule tailored to fit each athlete’s needs. The program is designed to develop aerobic fitness, ski technique, and prepare skiers for the upcoming race season. Goals at this level may include competing at the Jr. National Championships and pursuing participation at the college level.
The Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association (TCCSEA) is a nonprofit 501©(3) corporation whose mission is to promote the sport of cross country skiing through educational activities for children and adults.
Exact dates and details will be announced soon on the team’s website at www.txcjrteams.com.
