When will it snow again in Tahoe? If weather forecasters are correct, the snow shovels can remain dormmate for at least a couple more weeks and perhaps longer.
According to OpenSnow forecaster Bryan Allegretto, the dry weather that has lasted the entire month of January at Tahoe ski resorts will continue for the foreseeable future.
His forecast is the dry pattern will last at least through mid-February. “The longer-range models do suggest we get wetter as we go later into February, but we’ll see,” says Allegretto.
TERRIFIC JANUARY WEATHER: One good thing regarding the weather is January hasn’t been overly warm, so the snow conditions have remained good.
As of Friday (Jan. 28), Allegretto says the Tahoe region is sitting at 5.3 degrees below average temperature for January.
While there have been some warm days, most have been near average for highs and they include many cold overnight lows.
CURRENT WEATHER FORECAST: Dry weather, mostly sunny skies, and highs in the 40s (30s above 8,500 feet) are predicted for Friday. Inversions should continue through the weekend and maybe into Monday.
Allegretto writes that the weather pattern shifts for a few days next week, but the only noticeable change appears to be colder air.
There may be some gusty winds from the west up to 40-plus mph over the ridges Monday, and then colder air for Tuesday through Thursday next week. High temperatures drop into the 30s at lake level and 20s for the higher elevations.
GOOD SKI CONDITIONS REMAIN: For the short term, forget about the need for more snow and be thankful for days of blue sky and comfortable temperatures.
At most Tahoe ski resorts, there are numerous groomed runs and park laps right now. While the weather is quiet and calm, the groomers can focus on quality and quantity at the same time.
At Sugar Bowl, the resort is grooming up to 50 runs for this weekend, while keeping a close watch on the finished product.
Like many Tahoe ski resorts, live music can be found. At Sugar Bowl, the “Rockin’ in the Bowl” weekend music series continues with Jonathan Hennion playing Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 pm. on the Judah Lodge deck.
