Apologies if this sounds repetitive – Wednesday is another powder day at Tahoe ski resorts.
Many Tahoe ski resorts were reporting at least a foot of fresh snow over the past 24 hours, making Wednesday (March 29) yet another chance to ski or snowboard in light, fluffy snow.
Sierra-at-Tahoe received 16 inches of snow this morning and its website sums up today’s conditions. “There is plenty of POW to go around with the whole mountain firing with freshies and a forecast of a little refresh this afternoon (with more snow).”
Tahoe Donner was reporting the largest snow total Wednesday morning among Tahoe ski resorts, getting 28 inches (nearly 2½ feet). Mt. Rose received 22 inches and Boreal Mountain had 21.

AMAZING SEASON SNOW TOTALS: Powder days have routinely occurred this
memorable season for snow totals. According to the Central Sierra Snow Lab near Donner Summit, this is the Lake Tahoe region’s second snowiest season with 677 inches. The organization began recording snow totals in 1946 and says the most recorded snow ever was in 1952 with 812 inches.
Palisades Tahoe received a foot of new snow from the latest storm and now has 690 inches for the 2022-23 season. “That is about the height
of 10 Toyota Tacoma (trucks) if they were stacked on top of each other,” said Palisades Tahoe spokesperson Patrick Lacey.
And the long-range forecast is calling for snow to likely continue through Easter Sunday (April 16), making this truly a record-setting season for snow totals.
Palisades Tahoe and multiple other Tahoe ski resorts could establish new season snow totals. Sugar Bowl has the most snow among area resorts with a staggering total of 748 inches. Boreal is reporting 723 inches and both Palisades Tahoe and Kirkwood with 690 inches are soon-to-be members of the 700 club.
The huge snow totals have resulted in many Tahoe ski resorts pushing back their original closing dates. The latest resort to announce an extension to the season was Tahoe Donner. It will stay open one additional weekend – April 14-16.
WEATHER FORECAST: Cloudy skies and snow showers are anticipated Wednesday afternoon. There’s also spotty accumulation during the evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The snow is expected to take a small break, making Thursday and Friday excellent days to ski or ride due to mostly sunny skies and high
temperatures possibly reaching 40 degrees.
After light accumulations of snow Saturday, a mild storm is projected Sunday evening into Monday. The NWS says the unsettled weather pattern with below average temps are likely to continue into Easter weekend with another colder storm possible by the end of next week.
