A winter storm sweeping through the Lake Tahoe region brought 10 inches of fresh snow to Alpine Meadows’ upper mountain and 6 inches to Squaw Valley on Saturday. It was the first significant snowfall of the 2014-15 winter season.
The timely snow comes at a good time for Squaw Valley, which has scheduled its opening date of Wednesday, Nov. 26. Alpine Meadows is scheduled to open Friday, Dec. 12.
In addition, Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows’ snowmaking teams have been working through the night to make snow. Both North Lake Tahoe ski resorts began making snow at about 2 a.m. Saturday morning. The resorts will continue to make snow, temperatures permitting.
Skiers and riders looking to take full advantage of this season’s snowfall can purchase the Tahoe Super Pass now. The Tahoe Super Pass starts at $439 for adults, and offers season-long access to 6,000 acres, 42 lifts and over 270 trails at both mountains. For more information on pricing, or to purchase a season pass, visit www.TahoeSuperPass.com.
Thanksgiving dinner at High Camp: Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows will once again host a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at High Camp on Thursday, Nov. 27. Guests can ride the resort’s scenic Aerial Tram up 2,000 vertical feet to feast at The Terrace, one of High Camp’s mountaintop restaurants, while taking in panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountains.
The buffet-style dinner will include traditional dishes such as rosemary roasted turkey, honey roasted ham, garlic mashed potatoes, a house-made bacon and apple stuffing, and sweet potato casserole. Dinner will be capped off with dessert-favorites including apple, pumpkin and sweet potato pies and vanilla ice cream.
Guests can choose from two seatings for dinner: 12:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. Reservations for the Thanksgiving buffet are $45 for adults and $29 for kids 12-and-under. Prices do not include Aerial Tram tickets for the ride up to High Camp, which can be purchased for $27 for adults and $5 for kids. Those with a season pass or lift ticket for the day can ride the Tram for free.
Reservations can be made now by calling 800 403-0206 or emailing [email protected]. Both seatings sell out each year, so those interested are encouraged to make reservations as soon as possible.
