Hot August Nights will give attendees not only the chance to view vintage automobiles, but the opportunity to purchase one as well.
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows and the High Fives Foundation announce the sale of Shirley, a custom-restored 1957 Willys Jeep 6-226 Wagon, at this year’s Hot August Nights classic car convention on Friday, August 7.
The charity auction for Shirley will take place at the Hot August Nights Auction presented by Barrett-Jackson at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. The car will be sold at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday, August 7. Bidding can be done in-person, online and via phone. Click here for complete information and bid registration.
Proceeds from Shirley’s charity auction will benefit High Fives Foundation’s “Marines to the Mountains” program, which provides U.S. Marines injured in combat with opportunities to conquer the slopes. Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows purchased Shirley in 2012, and donated the ride to High Fives Foundation earlier this year.
“We couldn’t be more excited to donate Shirley to an inspiring program like High Fives Foundation’s ‘Marines to the Mountains’ initiative,” said Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows CEO Andy Wirth. “The High Fives Foundation has a longstanding and important relationship with our resort, and we’re proud to support an organization that works to better the lives of recovering athletes and military personnel”.
Shirley is one of less than 8,000 1957 Willys Jeeps ever made, and still features the car’s original VIN/Serial number details. The truck is expected to earn between $50,000 and $70,000 at auction.
The complete auction package includes:
- Shirley, a 1957 Willys Jeep 6-226 Wagon
- 2 Gold Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows season passes
- 2 outfits provided by The North Face
- 2 pairs of Oakley sunglasses
- 2 pairs of Head skis
Shirley, the 1957 Willys Jeep 6-226 Wagon, first came to Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows in 2012, when Wirth and Olympian Jonny Moseley tapped car-collecting legend Wayne Carini, of the hit TV program Chasing Classic Cars, to help find a heavy-duty ride that could have roamed the Tahoe area during the 1960 Olympic Games hosted at Squaw Valley. With Wayne’s help, the team purchased Shirley in 2012.
The newly restored vehicle includes the following upgrades and features:
- Correct 6-226 Super Hurricane inline 6-cylinder engine
- 226/115 HP engine; 190 ft. lbs. of torque
- T90 3-speed transmission
- 4-wheel drive
- Front and rear split windows
- Navy blue/Tartan interior
- Full carpeting
- New wide whitewall tires
- Custom chrome wheel covers with hand-painted Willys emblems
- Luggage rack with vintage luggage
- Original Willys Overland heater
Proceeds from Shirley’s sale will contribute to High Fives Foundation’s “Marines to the Mountains” program. During the 2015-16 winter season, 10 Marines injured during service will visit Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, accompanied by Jacob Schick, a third-generation Marine who suffered multiple injuries in Iraq and was featured in the movie American Sniper.
Schick is a past recipient of a High Fives Foundation grant for skiing with Disabled Sports USA and the High Fives Crew at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows. This grant will allow him to share his experience conquering the slopes with ten deserving Marines.
